EZ Data Dictionary® is designed to complement more sophisticated data modeling tools, and help you deliver information about your database to the end-user.

The main features are:

1. EZ Data Dictionary® is an inquiry and documentation tool for end users and report builders. It doesn’t do data modeling.
2. EZ Data Dictionary® is typically used as a tool to document a database that has already been built. Many times, users have created their own Microsoft® Access® databases that have not been properly documented. EZ Data Dictionary® provides a friendly and easy tool to help the user document what they have done. If the user ever expects the systems department to support them for their application, the minimum that they must do is document their own databases!
3. Everything about EZ Data Dictionary® is ODBC related. Eight (8) tables are added into the database to store information about the data. EZ Data Dictionary® then populates the fields in these tables with all the necessary information about your database, such as table names, column names, sizes, etc. The only step left for the user to complete is simply to add the business definitions.
4. You may choose to outsource the whole documentation effort to us on a consulting basis. We deliver the final result that you are looking for. We can also do training for you or your users on how to keep it updated, if you wish.

Data Warehousing

The EZ Data Dictionary® data Definition screen also contains information about the Source System tables and columns to show the origins of the data in your warehouse. There is also a box to show the Derivation/Calculation Rules to help end-users and programmers understand how the data was mapped from the transaction system to the warehouse. All of this translates into better productivity and communication between the members of the Data Warehousing team. Another benefit is that it is easier for business users to "buy in" to the value of the data warehouse if they have an easy way to visualize what it will look like. The data warehousing team often spends a lot of time deciding on a data modeling tool, but very little on how to deliver that information to their customers - the end-users. A data modeling tool is great for system developers, but too complicated for most end-users. EZ Data Dictionary® fills the gap by providing end-users with a friendly and easy tool to access the information, giving them a greater awareness of the value and usability of the data.
